As last year, I had the greatest of pleasures last night to attend the "Sports Presentation Evening" at The Buckingham School. It was thrilling to see all the young people gain medals, cups and praise from their PE teachers. Below is a copy of the programme that was handed out: note all the sporting success on page 3!
Two highlights: the speech from Simon Munn MBE who inspired us all first with his story of how he managed to survive the injury that took his leg and could easily have killed him and then went on to Paralympic glory. And secondly the teacher (sorry I cannot remember her name) who so affectionately, warmly and delightfully talked about her girl netball team. To see the close rapport between her and her students was so very moving.
In sum, congratulations to all the students who were honoured last night and may you continue to build on your sporting success! Such a great school that can coach, support and inspire young women and men to amazing excellence in sport! Well done all, especially the hard working staff who I know put so much of themselves into their work. In my view (although I am probably biased because my parents were both teachers): teaching is the noblest of professions. Our future is their hands.
And thanks to Cllr Robin Stuchbury who took the pic below. I presented the prizes for the Rotary Club co-organised International Inspiration Day.
Jon - thank you so much for your support for the school. It was a truly wonderful evening. I think sometimes our community under-estimates what our boys and girls are capable of!
