I was privileged to attend a performance of Connie's Colander in the library yesterday evening: a play about dementia. It was one of the most moving performances I have ever seen: so well written and so well acted. The three dozen of us there experienced a play that was heartwarming, tragic and challenging in equal measures. It was a heady mix of powerful ingredients! If you get the chance to see it at some other point - do go!
This was the third event organised by Eileen Winston (Buckingham Dementia Action Alliance) as a prelude to Dementia Action Week starting soon - but yesterday's play fitted well in all the MentalHealthAwarenessWeek events also going on this week.
And the lesson overall? Be kind and considerate to everyone - you never know whether someone has said or done something as a result of some aspect of dementia (or some other issue, affliction or just having a bad day...) If dementia awareness is about anything, it is about building a kinder, more considerate and caring community for us all.
